Tips for Selecting a Broker

by TQL 5/13/2010

  1. Visit the company’s web site. Look for things like history, news coverage, awards and recognition that can confirm the company’s legitimacy.

  2. Check the broker’s credit history. See page six for more information.

  3. Ask for references. Speak with a carrier who has hauled for them within the last year.

  4. Don’t move until you have a signed rate confirmation.

  5. Make sure all information is correct on the paperwork you receive pertaining to the load. If anything changes during the load, get it in writing.

  6. Never wait for payment past the agreed-upon payment date.

  7. It’s a good idea to work with brokers that have an after hours dispatch team. It guarantees that you can get help at all hours which can save you a lot of headaches.

We too have delviered loads and not been paid for them,  this is a real disaster for small trucking companies like ours since we depend on brokers to be dependable just like we are.  Be very careful and do credit checks or reference checks on them.  Belinda

Some brokers when you check there credit it will say a "new broker". It scares me, what if they dont pay me for the load, they dont have any credit history, but there loads run at higher rates. So any advise how to check those new brokers?

TQL does it the right way. Do the work, and they pay you what they promised.
